Most restoration marketing repeats a “24 to 48 hours” figure without attribution. The Canadian government position is more specific. Health Canada’s guidance states that immediate action is important because mould will begin to grow in an area with excessive moisture within 48 hours. [3] That is the number to plan around, and it is why drying starts before the building looks dry.
The more useful part of the guidance, and the part missing from every competing page in this market, is the size threshold table. Health Canada categorizes mould area three ways: [3]

- Water extraction. Standing water comes out first with pumps and extraction units. Every hour that water remains raises the category and the drying load.
